A Female Viagra?

Women with low libido get a boost from a new drug

Women who suffer from chronically low levels of sexual desire may soon be able to fix the problem with a pill. In a review of three recent clinical trials, scientists determined that after 24 weeks of treatment with the drug flibanserin, women reported significantly more sexual desire and an increase in satisfactory sexual encounters. The drug was initially developed as an antidepressant, and although it failed to alter mood in trials, researchers noticed it seemed to be helping women with low sex drives. How the drug works is not yet entirely clear, but it is known to alter the levels of serotonin in the brain. Although more trials are needed before flibanserin could become available commercially, it shows promise as the first drug demonstrated to treat low libido in women—the most common sexual problem in females—by targeting the brain.

On a lighter side, and may be serious too: If a Women's Viagra is launched, must be ensured that both men's and women's Viagra's are equally available and seriousness of the prescription has to be balanced. All men cannot use influence, and women can use them pretty well. This has been a global observation. It's going to be interesting to wait and listen different outcomes from the society, I am the manufacturers are already taking care of the adverse events of the drug. Again should be intresting to watch the sales metrics of both Men and Women Viagras!

I am interested to see the turbulances in the society... Viagra for men was accepted with different interest levels globally. Now with the women Viagra approaching the market. Watch out for the Sales Metrics of both the products around the globe.
Adverse Events is a headache of the sponser/pharma company which is working on the drug....I am sure they are expecting it to be a block buster...
Who is actually thinking on how it would impact the society.

This is not really a valid comparison. Viagra is not a libido enhancer it doesn't make someone feel libidinous. It changes the chemistry of blood vessels such that acheiving an erection is easier, the brain is unaffected. This is a different product altogether with a different effect.

I wonder if the effect is immediate (as in one dose) or if it's cumulative? How quickly before its efficacy drops off and a tolerance is developed? It raises some interesting ethical issues, as what if it replaced incapacitating date rape drugs... would a rape charge still be possible if consent was given under its influence without knowledge?

The drug will probably work well for the inventor. I suspect it will give him a bulge in his pants right about where his wallet is, which has been shown to be irresistible to many women. In fact, next to a Reality TV camera it is the most effective way to get a women to take their clothes off. Only kidding ladies. I have no idea what would get a woman to take her clothes off...

Electric, it's probably something that should be taken in gradual updoses, like most anti-depressants, in order to gently change the body's chemistry. Like most anti-depressants however, it will likely be abused. It definitely will be interesting to see how this plays out. Our society has so many conflicting viewpoints pertaining to womens' sexual health while consistantly touting the virile male as a respectible ideal. I'll stop myself now before I soapbox, but I'm very glad that something like this is finally coming out for women to help themselves.
By the way Robert, depending on the type of women you want stripping for you, I've heard liquor helps too...
