Every year the Olympus BioScapes International Digital Imaging Competition attracts spectacular entries from professional and amateur microscopists around the world. The January issue of Scientific American contains a selection of images from the 2012 contest. But we couldn't limit ourselves to those. The slide show below contains more of our favorites from this year's crop of winners and honorable mentions.

    They are using a micro-mosaic technique, which is creating beautiful images.
