Not unexpectedly, Africa and its importance and likelihood of becoming a specifically Black economic, technological and even military superpower by mid-century is missing from this debate, even though this will be incredibly apparent by 2030. Racism, by Europe and Asia, India continues to flower. Hopefully, Black Africa, the homeland of humanity, will be colorblind when it achieves its rightful place. If not, too bad.
And never underestimate the Persia by then. Iran should be well along its path as a secular, not sectarian, regional economic superpower again by this time.
Israel, now seen as a continuing wild card in the Middle East, will by then have been ripped asunder by internal sectarian strife (civil war) with orthodox Jews pitted against liberal Jewry.
Since this is Scientific American, never underestimate the impact of a super solar flare and CME being nature's way of committing genocide against us all -- sometime this century? -- leaving only the African bushmen, a few thousand Amazon native Indians, some Australian aboriginal tribes, the Hopi, and a dozen American Hippy communes able to survive after humanity is thrown back into the stone age.
