Monte Verde in Chile--home to around 30 people some 12,500 years ago--is the oldest known site of human habitation in the Americas. Archaeologist Tom Dillehay and his colleagues have uncovered a variety of human artifacts, like those shown below, from this ancient camp, which is not far from the Andes and the Pacific Ocean.
