This past weekend, "Apollo 13" was playing on one of the cable channels. I soon found it to depressing to watch because of how far we have fallen as a nation. In the area of Aerospace, we have gone from the only nation to have landed people on another world to a nation without a vehicle to launch our scientists into low Earth orbit. This do to the shortsightedness of the worst president in the history of the United States, and possibly its last.

I agree with you, except for the above throwaway line. It's a complete red herring, and the only scents it makes is fishy.

The downgrading of the US space program, began with Nixon and has continued to the present day, because politics since that time hasn't really rewarded Kennedy-style vision.

The best hope at present seem to be private visionaries, like Elon Musk. Musk says he is also hoping to inspire new, national involvement in space.

I hope he (and others like him) can do it.

The reason we stopped going to the moon is because we got what we went up there to get.Apollo 17 found a piece of the original crust,it was the Holy grail. If they had not there would have been another mission. What this President should do is offer a new goal to before this decade is out to build a fully operation fision reactor. This would lead to unlimited energy for all nations in just a few years, and end the fossil fuel era,and end and reverse man caused global warming.
