Is there a copy of you reading this article? A person who is not you but who lives on a planet called Earth, with misty mountains, fertile fields and sprawling cities, in a solar system with eight other planets? The life of this person has been identical to yours in every respect. But perhaps he or she now decides to put down this article without finishing it, while you read on.
The idea of such an alter ego seems strange and implausible, but it looks as if we will just have to live with it, because it is supported by astronomical observations. The simplest and most popular cosmological model today predicts that you have a twin in a galaxy about 10 to the 1028 meters from here. This distance is so large that it is beyond astronomical, but that does not make your doppelg¿nger any less real. The estimate is derived from elementary probability and does not even assume speculative modern physics, merely that space is infinite (or at least sufficiently large) in size and almost uniformly filled with matter, as observations indicate. In infinite space, even the most unlikely events must take place somewhere. There are infinitely many other inhabited planets, including not just one but infinitely many that have people with the same appearance, name and memories as you, who play out every possible permutation of your life choices.

As a very young child, when I first heard about GOD in first grade at a Catholic School. I promptly went home and found myself pondering this GOD and CREATION. I attempted to understand how all was created out of nothing. Then I proceeded to look up in the foggy morning sky to ponder NOTHINGNESS.....well that about exploded my brain. So then I thought, hmmm I think that there are places like where I am on top of one another. My attempt to ponder what Science have now come to KNOW as parallel universes. I have now in my 60's find myself thrilled with String Theory or M or Membrane Theory...and all that the Hubble Space Probe has sent back to us. Can it be that there are 11 copies...as the M Theory explains? 6 or 7 of these dimensions that we are not aware of daily...but none the less are THERE. Well, all I can say, is that I so appreciate Public Television and the History Channel...that educates us more and more about that which we do not see, but that which we with our Consciousness can understand. Brings me to even more appreciation of what Meditation can bring us to, a healthy respect and appreciation of all that IS. President Obama is bright enough to realize we do not need to go to the Moon again, but that we do need to explore more and more into DEEP SPACE. Makes me want to live to be a 100 yrs. of age...because I am sure much more will be known in another 40 years, that is IF Corporate Greed does not do this Planet in and back to the Stone Age.

Reply | Report Abuse | Link to thisIt is most definitely not uniformly filled with matter. A simple telescope observation will show this to be false. Matter "clumps" through the universe.
To make a call on the existence of a parallel universe requires scientific evidence and a peer review of that evidence.
Here is a link to an interesting radio show on traveling to and living in alternate realities (parallel universes). Once you get to the website, simply scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, and an audio player is on the far right hand side: http://www.beyond3dbooks.com/index/
