At the same time, BVOCs are also sources of ozone, a greenhouse gas that favors warming. What the net effect of the altered chemistry of the atmosphere would be is unknown, Penuelas said.

Add CommentPerhaps we could put genetic engineering to good use and seed the world with altered pollens containing genes for offensively horrible scents. That way, people would come to associate their environmentally unsustainable, Global Warming™ causing behaviors with bad odors. The various plant genes could be fine-tuned to shift to agreeable scents in response to minute reductions in atmospheric temperature.
