In the January 2012 issue of Scientific American, author James Vlahos explores the world of predictive policing—pre-crime, to you Philip K. Dick fans—through the eyes of the Memphis Real Time Crime center. The center assembles both real-time and historic data on criminal activity to create forecasts of where crime is likely to happen and when. Here Vlahos shows us how the the work of the center can lead to on-the-ground arrests.
