He notes, however, such a treatment option is years away. In the meantime, this research could offer the opportunity to determine who in the population are most susceptible to metabolic disease by determining the relative strength of one's gene for STAMP2.

From my experience, inflammation from car accidents started in my 20's and I grew fat, I thought, from lack of heavy exercise that exacerbated pain. Drs. look at me and assume fat caused the inflammation, but in reading this, I wonder if inflammation isn't a cause, not an effect, of fat.

44% of people >50 years old are "prediabetic" headed for diabetes II if they do not change lifestyle. I was diagnosed as a prediabetic with a fasting blood glucose level of 112mg/dl, high blood pressure and overweight BMI. My doctor told me to "lose weight". Thats it!! I have learned (on my own...no help form my doctor) that this is a complex disease and that I must learn about glycemic index, glycemic load and insulin index; that the insuling receptors on my slow twitch muscle fibers will become insulin resistant if I do not exercise within a 48 hour period (a genetic anomly that runs in families).

So now I 1. weigh weekly, 2. exercise >30min every day, 3. eliminate rice, potatos, pasta, soda pop etc from my diet and 4. read and learn about diabetes...the fifth leading PREVENTABLE AND THEREFORE AVOIDABLE cause of death in the U.S. and direct cause of CHD, strokes, blindness and amputation....
