What is Moore's Law? (Video)

Episode 2 of our Instant Egghead series tackles the law behind ever more powerful computers

In Brief

Moore's Law, invented by Gordon Moore of Intel, describes the exponential growth in computing power that enables the average cell phone to process instructions millions of times faster than the earliest computers.

SciAm community editor and host of the 60 Second Psych podcast Christie Nicholson explains Moore's Law in just a couple of minutes, using little more than her imagination and the junk on another editor's borrowed desk - no mean feat! i really enjoyed Miss Nicholson in this piece. I definitely want to see Moore! of her. Its refreshing to hear from a funny scientist; shes got all the wit D. Adams but with a whole lot more charm.
At first glance, I thought the law was rather intuitive and not that interesting. But this video has sparked my interest and a series of questions. Foremost, what is predicted to happen after 2020? : ("It can't continue forever. The nature of exponentials is that you push them out and eventually disaster happens"...) .. hmmmm..

Wow, what a beautiful way to present Moore's law.

    Loved your style.
