Shots in the Dark

Hawaii's Gemini Observatory caught this remarkable detail of supersonic "bullets" piercing through hydrogen clouds in the Orion Nebula. Astronomers believe the bullets, which are about 10 times the size of our solar system, are clumps of iron atoms (bright blue tips) and other gas ejected from within the nebula after an unknown violent event.
