Science jobs from Medical Research Council - Human Nutrition Research:
Applications are invited for Group Leaders to lead independent programmes of research at MRC Human Nutrition Research. HNR is an internationally renowned Medical Research Council Unit dedicated to public-health and policy relevant nutrition research and translation, aimed at the optimisation of health in the UK and abroad.
Three Group Leaders are sought to lead focused programmes of work in the following areas: 1 Nutrition, Ageing & Health 2 Maternal & Child Nutrition 3 B-Vitamin Metabolism & Health
HNR conducts nutrition research and surveillance to improve the health of the population with a focus on cardiometabolic risk and obesity, musculoskeletal health, intestinal health and nutritional inequalities. HNR has research interests in nutritional science that extend from studies of cellular and tissue biology, through nutritional biochemistry and physiology, to studies relating to population diet and health. In addition, HNR contributes to population nutrition surveillance through longstanding participation in the National Diet and Nutrition Survey. HNR has scientific expertise and extensive, modern facilities for underpinning technologies required for nutritional research and for relevant methodological innovation and biomarker discovery.
HNR has a collaborative ethos, with research partners throughout the UK and abroad. We have strong links across Cambridge with other MRC units, the University of Cambridge Clinical School and Cambridge Institute of Public Health at the nearby biomedical campus at Addenbrooke's Hospital, and other departments across the University, affording opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations in the medical, biological, chemical, physical, epidemiological and other disciplines relevant to nutritional science.
Applicants with programmes of research that synergise with the strengths of the Unit and with the 5 existing programmes are particularly welcomed. It is anticipated that the successful applicants will be researchers interested in public health nutrition, integrative physiology and/or nutritional biochemistry although there may be opportunities for outstanding applicants with other research interests relevant to our work. Clinical and non-clinical backgrounds will be equally considered.
These appointments will be made at Programme Leader or Programme Leader Track level (broadly equivalent to tenured and assistant professor respectively), depending on experience and achievements. Applicants for senior positions will already have a substantial track record in their field. Programme Leader Track appointments can be offered to those who show outstanding potential for independent research.
Successful candidates will be expected to take a strategic and outwardly focused approach, such as through interaction and collaboration with other groups. Funding is available for the salary of the Group Leader and resource will be provided for a small research team and consumables budget. It is expected that Group Leaders will secure grant support to drive forward and expand the research programme. HNR is affiliated to the University of Cambridge for doctoral training and Group Leaders have the opportunity to bid annually for HNR PhD studentships and Career Development Fellowships.
Interested parties are strongly encouraged to contact the Director, Dr Ann Prentice on 01223 426356 or email email@example.com for informal discussions.
Initial shortlisting will take place at the start of October and then on-going until we have identified and secured appointments for all of the vacancies.**
When applying, applicants should include a covering letter and full CV quoting IRC102693, an outline of current research interests (1 page) and a proposal for future research (up to 2 pages), along with names and addresses of three referees who have agreed to be contacted prior to interview.
