Econic Technologies is a young, highly innovative, and fast growing chemical technology company. We develop and commercialise novel catalyst technologies to build CO2 into polyurethanes and other polymers. Our top-class Research & Development team is looking for a polymer chemist or material scientist with very strong expertise in polyurethanes. This role will form a critical link between the in-house catalyst research efforts and the polyurethane product development and scale up that will take place at our customers.

The Polyurethane Development Scientist will: Synthesise and formulate polyurethanes; Characterise and test properties of PU either in house or at 3rd party facilities; Advise our catalyst development team on polyol characteristics for PU applications; Provide insight on PU manufacturing, characterisation techniques and test methods; Support scale up of catalyst and polymers, often in collaboration with 3rd parties; Select and commission PU synthesis, characterisation and testing facilities; * Develop and project-manage contractor and consulting relationships.

To thrive in this role, you'll need to enjoy working with Econic team members and external contractors and consultants, have excellent communication skills, be resourceful and creative, independent and self-motivated. Expert knowledge of polyurethane formulation and/or PU polyol synthesis, polyurethane structure-property relationships and PU applications is critical.

Educational background and experience At least BSc or equivalent in Polymer Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or other relevant field. A minimum of 5 years experience in polyurethane research and development or polyurethane system house activities. Demonstrable ability to lead projects, set direction and implement autonomously. Knowledge of polyurethane chemistry, structure-property relationships, rheology, common characterisation techniques and testing. * A working knowledge of PU polyol manufacturing processes and polyurethane manufacturing processes, including process configuration, processing conditions and constraints, residence times, raw materials, additives, processing aids.
