Science jobs from UCLA:
This position is open summer or fall of 2014 in the Lo Laboratory, which addresses key challenges in the development of novel melanoma therapeutics. We have focused on how BRAF mutant melanomas adapt to and acquire resistance to BRAF inhibitors (or BRAF plus MEK inhibitors) and how the BRAF inhibitors induce secondary neoplasms. Our current research tackles layers of complexity, during the evolution of resistance, including signaling, epigenetic and metabolic reprogramming underlying melanoma dormancy and phenotypic plasticity. We seek to also understand the functional interface between melanoma and its tumor-infiltrating neighboring cells, including immune-regulatory and immune cells. Finally, we look for therapeutic opportunities from our pre-clinical and clinical tissue correlative studies and promote clinical trial testing of novel therapeutic concepts. We are affiliated with the Department of Medicine/Division of Dermatology, Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology, and the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (Signal Transduction and Therapeutics Program) at the University of California, Los Angeles.
The ideal candidates must have experience with analysis of high-thoughput data sets such whole-exome or whole genome sequences, transcriptomes (miRNA, lncRNAs, snRNAs, alternative splicing), gDNA methylation, and CHIPSeq. The candidates should also have knowledge in using R/Matlab to perform statistical analysis and good general programming skill. Understanding of experimental biomedical research, collaborative and leadership skills as well as communication prowess (fluency in English) are also important for this position. US permanent residency or citizenship is not required. Interested individuals should have at least one first-authored publication in a visible journal. Please forward a CV along with three letters of recommendation, one of which from the doctoral thesis advisor, to email@example.com.
Posting date January 2014.
