Unilever is at the forefront of the hair care industry around the world through brands such as TRESemmé, Sunsilk, Dove, Clear and TIGI. As this innovative and fast-changing category continues to grow strongly, we're looking for a measurement expert to join our Hair Global Design Centre in Port Sunlight, UK, and to act as custodian of product design and outstanding delivery. It's a multi-disciplinary environment, in which the challenge is to improve products further and sustain future growth.

What you'll do

Reporting to our Hair Appraisal Manager, you'll help to build our capability in technical measurement for evaluating the performance of hair care and styling products. Defining links between technical product characteristics and consumer benefits, you'll be instrumental in shaping even stronger claims for our brands. We'll expect you to lead aspects of the hair measurement programme, overseeing the work of technicians and liaising closely with a range of external partners from industry and academia.

Your responsibilities

Leading key aspects of our measurement capability-build programme, including the validation and implementation of new measurements. Refining measurement objectives by taking the lead in discussions with our Product Format Development teams. Identifying and determining the right methodologies for new product evaluation and claims support. Driving continuous improvement through regional hair measurement teams located in key markets across the globe. Identifying and directing internal and external partners who can help us build our strategic measurement capability. Selecting, briefing and reviewing the work of external third parties. * Extracting insights from multiple sources of information and communicating opportunities for the business.


Significant experience in a physical or measurement science, including leadership of projects. A BSc, MSc or equivalent in physical sciences (including Physics, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry or Biochemistry). An inquisitive and creative nature, with a desire for continual improvement. Good knowledge of experimental design and statistical analysis. The ability to work in multi-functional teams and with many different stakeholders. Ideally, a background in FMCG.
