Autophagy and Apoptosis in cancer Prof Kevin Ryan

The Tumour Cell Death Laboratory led by Professor Kevin Ryan is interested in factors that regulate autophagy and apoptosis and how they contribute to tumour development and cancer therapy (Rosenfeldt et al. (2013) Nature 504:296-, Long et al. (2013) Mol. Cell 50:394-, Wilkinson et al. (2009) Genes Dev. 23:1283-, Bell et al. (2007) J. Clin. Invest. 117:1008-, Crighton et al. (2006) Cell 126:121-). We are seeking highly-motivated and dedicated postdoctoral researchers to study the role of autophagy in cancer. In particular, you will investigate novel autophagy-related tumour suppressor pathways and studies will involve cutting-edge technologies to understand protein function in vitro and in vivo. A relevant PhD is essential and evidence of experience with in vivo techniques would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Professor Ryan's laboratory is located at the Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute which is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres. It supports basic and translational research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies.

Applications with CV and names of three referees should be sent to Prof Kevin Ryan, Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute, Garscube Estate, Switchback Road, Bearsden, Glasgow G61 1BD, UK or by email to

Closing date for applications: 1st August 2014
