The University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking a new Director of the Center for Vaccine Development (CVD) to build upon CVD's 40 years of outstanding innovation in the fields of global health and vaccinology. Under the extraordinary leadership of Dr. Myron Levine, CVD has grown into an academic vaccine development enterprise that carries out more than $35 million (direct) of externally funded research annually. With over 30 full-time scientific and clinical faculty members in Baltimore, and three off-shore research units that together employ more than 500 staff, the CVD has a commitment to develop and test vaccines against high-priority bacterial, viral, and parasitic diseases that mainly afflict populations in developing countries.

The University of Maryland School of Medicine ranks 20th in direct grants and contract expenditures among all 140 US and Canadian medical schools ($370.4 million in total grants and contracts in FY13), according to Association for American Medical Colleges (AAMC).

Applicants are expected to be well funded NIH investigators who hold the MD or equivalent degree and board certification in specialty and sub-specialty area. Ph.D. or equivalent candidates with demonstrable product development experience are also invited to apply. The successful candidate should have a superb record of scholarly activity with proven leadership, mentoring and administrative abilities and the breadth of experience required to manage the complex research and regulatory environment required for vaccine development. He/she should possess a passion for excellence and achievement in basic, clinical and field research and education, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a vision to further expand the international visibility and impact of the CVD.
