The Petroleum Institute (PI) was created in 2001 with the goal of establishing itself as a world-class institution in engineering education and research in areas of significance to the oil and gas and the broader energy industries. The PI's sponsors and affiliates include Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and several major international oil companies. The Petroleum Geosciences department currently has 11 faculty, is expanding into the area of petroleum geophysics and utilizes modern instructional laboratories and classroom facilities. A major Research center is currently under construction and will be operational in early 2015. Position Description: The geochemistry laboratory in the PIRC will open in the autumn of 2014, and the successful candidate will be actively involved in the establishing of this lab. The successful candidate should have knowledge of gas-chromatography mass-spectrometry and whole rock analyzers (e.g. Rock Eval and Source Rock Analyzer). The successful candidate will maintain and operate equipment and will conduct sample analysis, preparation and development of analytical techniques to support ongoing research in the lab where needed. The candidate will be expected to conduct general day-to-day laboratory duties such as solution preparation, liquid and solid sample preparation for analysis, maintain and operate standard lab equipment (e.g. centrifuge, pH meters, pipettor, microbalance, hot/stir plate) and manage the laboratory inventory. The candidate should understand and keep current with all aspects of laboratory health, safety and analytical methodology. Candidate must be willing to assist and train undergraduate and graduate students who are conducting analytical work in the lab. The successful candidate should also have experience with general laboratory equipment and a willingness to be trained and work with new analytical equipment as it is acquired.

Qualifications: Minimum PhD with two years experience or with a M.Sc. degree in geology, chemistry, biology, microbiology or closely related science and at least 10 years of subsequent experience. Strong oral and written communication skills in English are essential. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual, who is a team player and possesses strong computer and organizational skills Additional Details Salary/Benefits: Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The total compensation package includes a tax-free 12-month base salary, and a benefits allowance that covers relocation, housing, initial furnishings, utilities, transportation (automobile purchase loan), health insurance, child(ren) education, end-of-service benefit and annual leave travel.
