Project Description

Postdoctoral Research Associate opportunities are available with the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agriculture Research Service (ARS) Animal Biosciences and Biotechnology Laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland. The selected candidates will systematically conduct independent research on the enteric diseases of poultry which will ultimately lead to a novel product against coccidiosis.

Qualifications

To be eligible, applicants must have received a doctorate degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology or Microbiology within five years of the desired starting date. An additional DVM is desirable as well as experience with tissue culture, flow cytometry, and animal experiments. Writing original manuscripts is crucial. Preferred skills include: Handling poultry including sacrificing chickens Collecting samples (tissues, blood, spleen, duodenal loop, caeca, crop and thymus) Performing routine and recurring techniques using a variety of specialized equipment including FACSCalibur, Luminex, In-Ovo Egg Injector, and Confocal Microscope Makes and cultures hybridoma cells and produces ascites for purified monoclonal antibodies * Preparing, purifying and testing bioactivity in proteins using standard biochemical procedures

While participants will not enter into an employment relationship with ARS, this position requires a pre-employment check and a full background investigation.

The appointment is full-time for one year and may be renewed upon recommendation of the ARS and availability of funding. The annual stipend rate for this position is $63,091. A stipend supplement in the amount of $13,615 is provided to cover the cost of an individual or family health insurance plan. The participant must show proof of health and medical insurance. Health insurance may be obtained through ORISE. The participant does not become an employee of the ARS or ORISE.
