The Department of Entomology at Iowa State University seeks to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor position in Vector Entomology to conduct basic and/or applied research on arthropod vectors of medical or agricultural importance and to teach in related fields. The general area of specialization focuses on the interactions between vectors and pathogens that are critical for successful transmission of established and/or emerging diseases of humans or agriculturally important plants or animals. Emphasis will be placed on the use of modern techniques to elucidate and manipulate the molecular and physiological mechanisms that determine pathogen transmission by arthropod vectors.

The appointment is expected to be approximately 75% research and 25% instruction. The successful candidate will have a strong research background and demonstrated research productivity. The candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a strong, externally funded basic and/or applied research program that attains national and international recognition, train and mentor graduate students and postdocs. The candidate will be expected to develop an effective teaching program in vector / medical entomology and other relevant subject matter at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Required Qualifications: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: A PhD in Entomology or related field. Training and experience with modern approaches to the study of pathogen-vector interactions and vector biology.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/FULL PROFESSOR: In addition to the above, candidates must meet the University standards for appointment at the associate professor/full professor rank with tenure, and have a record of scholarly achievement commensurate with such rank appointments.

Preferred Qualifications: Post-doctoral research experience; publication record in peer-reviewed journals; Demonstrated ability to secure extramural funding; Teaching experience at the university or college level.

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience

Special Conditions: This is a 9-month appointment with a starting date of January 1, 2015, but is subject to negotiation depending upon the availability of the successful candidate.
