Function: In response to the grand challenge of sustainable material management, VITO ceramic materials and powder metallurgy team is expanding a new research activity focused on materials synthesis for catalytic and innovative chemical processes (such as chemical looping). We are collaborating with industrial companies, universities and other research institutions to develop applications in this field and bring them to market. For this innovative and future-orientated line of research, we are looking for an experienced researcher to strengthen the team. You will be responsible for conducting and coordinating scientific research projects. You will represent VITO in this new field of research, holding presentations at (international) forums and publishing in scientific journals. You will build up an (international) network of interested partners and seek out opportunities to collaborate on specific projects within industry. In short, you will contribute to ensuring that VITO is perceived as a leader in this field of research at an international level. Profile: You have a Master degree in (applied) sciences (e.g. chemistry, materials science and bioengineering), preferably accompanied by a doctorate. You have a wide background in chemistry an you are an expert in materials science. Specific expertise in the field of catalytic processes and technologies, as well as materials synthesis, is an advantage. You have at least 5 years experience in independently conducting research projects, preferably in an industrial R&D environment. You have strong communication skills, powers of persuasion and the determination to achieve results. You find it easy to network (internationally). You have a client-focused approach and an eye for opportunities. You consider yourself to possess entrepreneurship and to take initiative. You have good project management capabilities and strong organisational skills. You work flexibly as a team player and are equally capable of working independently. You are highly motivated in initiating projects for clients in a national and international context. Given the international nature of this role, an excellent knowledge of English is essential.
