The specific areas of research interest should complement and enhance the wide range of expertise currently possessed by faculty in the department. In particular, candidates are encouraged to apply who have a track record of research pertaining to the effects of exposure to environmental factors on: 1) metabolism and immune regulation; 2) the microbiome; 3) development of neural, reproductive, or other organ systems; 4) pulmonary or cardiac pathophysiology; 5) metabolic disorders; 5) cancer.
The Department offers excellent opportunities for cross cutting interdisciplinary research in areas including mechanistic investigation of environmental diseases such as COPD, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, lung and liver cancer, gene-environment interaction, environmental epidemiology, environmental and occupational health, toxicology, physiology and risk assessment for susceptibility to environmental diseases. Our program is strongly integrated with all major programs in the school of medicine such as pulmonary and oncology which extends the opportunities for further research collaborations for translational research. Successful applicants should have academic and research experience commensurate with the level of the appointment at the assistant or associate professor level.
