As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus and lung diseases. Helmholtz Zentrum München is a member of the Helmholtz Association, Germany's largest scientific organization.

The Comprehensive Pneumology Center (CPC, at Helmholtz Zentrum München is a translational research center dedicated to respiratory medicine. The CPC Munich is also partner site of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL), an association of the leading university and non-university institutions dedicated to lung research in Germany. Using translational research methods, the DZL seeks to jointly develop new approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and therapy of chronic lung diseases including, among others, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diffuse parenchymal lung disease (DPLD), endstage lung disease, lung cancer, or acute lung injury.

We are looking for a

Junior Research Group Leader Position with Tenure Track m/f - Cell-derived Therapeutics in Chronic Lung Disease 2014/2398

This Junior Research Group is embedded into the infrastructure at the CPC-M, as well as the disease areas "Diffuse parenchymal lung disease" and/or "COPD" of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL, The position will be available for 5 years and then evaluated by a tenure procedure, which assesses the performance and long-term aims of the group, taking into account its strategic positioning within the center. The Junior Research Group comprises funding for the leader position, one postdoc, one technician and one PhD student (to be enrolled in the CPC Graduate Program), as well as appropriate consumables (subject to negotiation).

Job Description

Development and implementation of research approaches on therapeutic cell delivery in the above-mentioned lung diseases Identification, characterization, and/or production of potential cell populations (or cell-derived components such as exosomes) for therapeutic delivery Design and execution of interventional pre-clinical and/or clinical studies using these approaches in relevant model systems Establishment and management of the independent Junior Research Group

Your Qualifications

Scientists with MD, PhD or equivalent degree in the biosciences, preferably 2 to 6 years after receiving their doctorate Substantial international research experience * International track record including excellent publications in the field
