_The Center for Advanced Molecular Diagnostics (CAMD) is the clinical molecular diagnostics laboratory for three Harvard Medical School hospitals: Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and for the pediatric cancer patients of Boston Children's Hospital. Our mission is to provide innovative molecular and cytogenetic diagnostic services to assist with the clinical care of patients in our hospitals and affiliated clinics, with a primary focus on cancer care. This is exemplified by the PROFILE program, which is a collaborative effort to advance translational and personalized cancer medicine by implementing tumor genomic profiling for all cancer patients who receive care at one of the collaborating hospitals. PROFILE employs state-of-the art genomics technology to generate a detailed report of medically actionable genetic alterations in a CLIA-certified and real-time process to facilitate rapid clinical application. These cancer genomic profiles are being used to guide patient treatment and/or stratification for clinical trials of novel anticancer agents._

Role and Responsibilities: This opportunity offers the chance to work at the forefront of translational cancer technologies and applications. The Group Leader of Computational Bioinformatics will be a thought leader in analysis and representation of genomic data generated by massively parallel sequencing, and will manage a team of computational biologists, bioinformaticians, data analysts, and software developers. The Bioinformatics Group Leader will report to the Director of the CAMD, and will have the following responsibilities:

Oversee the implementation, deployment, modification and maintenance of existing and new applications for cancer genome analysis and discovery Oversee the design, validation, and deployment of new applications for analysis of cancer transcriptomes and circulating cancer cell genomes, as well as germline and microbial genomes Directly supervise the Computational Bioinformatics Team Evaluate existing informatics workflows and processes, and design enhancements for optimization/automation, where applicable Apply standardized quality improvement practices on the Computational Bioinformatics Team's software design, development and testing efforts. Work closely with other CAMD faculty, staff and leadership, particularly with the Scientific Leader, Technical Director, and Administrative Leader Work with leaders of other hospital divisions to address institutional computational strategies, needs, and resources Work closely with faculty and staff to support ongoing analytical requirements and coordinate efforts across multiple laboratories/Centers/Programs (both internal and external) Develop and implement clinical report format and structured knowledgebase Additional tasks including, but not limited to: supporting the visualization and analysis of existing data through web-deployable interfaces, supporting for the sample and feature databases, including maintenance and operation of the databases

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, or related field strongly preferred, but Master's degree with appropriate experience and achievements will also be considered; expert scientific background with prior exposure to cancer biology, molecular biology and/or genomics, including hands-on experience with next generation sequencing data analysis, is necessary; successful experience with software development and/or database design is necessary; experience in a regulated environment preferred; previous experience in fostering and maintaining productivity and esprit de corps within a supervised team; excellent communication and effective problem-solving skills; excellent communication skills for conveying concepts, ideas, and challenges to all staff levels, including non-technical executive leadership; and ability to interact with a diverse multidisciplinary staff in a fast-paced and rapidly-changing environment. The successful candidate should be able to work independently, prioritize and manage a variety of tasks, and shift priorities rapidly. 5 years minimum experience in bioinformatics; experience with cancer biology informatics, genomics, sequence analysis, large dataset management, algorithm development and/or statistical modeling strongly preferred. Candidate should have at least 5 years coding experience with Perl (object-oriented) and/or Java in a UNIX/Linux environment; experience with RDBMS (MySQL, Oracle) and SQL is also critical; experience with intranet application development, HTML, JavaScript, XML/XSLT/SVG manipulations, database optimization is a plus. A minimum two-year commitment is required.
