Research Technologist 1 Job Summary: A Research Technologist 1 is sought to help ensure the smooth operation of the Walsh and Naghavi laboratories in the Department of Microbiology-Immunology, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University at Chicago. The Technologist will divide their time between the two laboratories, which are located across the hall from one another, on alternating days or as required. Duties expected are not "doubled-up" or exhaustive, and are designed to be equivalent to working in one laboratory. Duties involve checking on lab supplies and purchases/ordering of lab stocks, as well as speaking with sales representatives. Additional duties involve autoclaving and light glassware washing using the departmental autoclaves and dishwashers, as well as organization of laboratory stock inventories. The technologist will also have the opportunity to assist in research projects, should they wish to do so and with time permitting after performing primary duties. Research in both laboratories is focused on the biology of infection by a variety of human viruses. The Research Technologist will follow appropriate protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices.

The individual working in this position is expected to have training in basic biological sciences. Good organization and communication skills are essential. Ability to work with others in a group environment is important.

Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in a basic science, biological science or chemistry; Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols; Attention to detail and accurate record keeping; Punctuality Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
