Basic Function and Scope of the Position: Initiates, directs and executes all scientific research and/or critical development strategies for Illumina through the research staff or individual studies. Tasks and Responsibilities: Help to establish and lead a new protein engineering group in Singapore Develop directed evolution methodologies for enzyme engineering, focusing on selection methods. Design and perform high throughput screen of large repertoires of protein mutants Design and perform selection methods such as genetic screen, emulsion based selection, or display. Design and construct large diversity mutant libraries. Design and conduct small scale protein expression, purification, and characterization Participate in multi disciplinarily protein engineering projects and interact with engineers, chemists, and protein scientists, to deliver protein variants with desired properties Investigate the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems. Independently oversee the design, implementation, collection, analysis and reporting of experiments. Solve complex development challenges independently. All listed tasks and responsibilities are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional task and responsibilities. Preferred Educational Background: Ph.D. in protein engineering, protein biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field. Preferred Experiential Background: 3+ years post doctorial experiences in the field of protein engineering using directed evolution approaches. Industrial experiences are highly desirable. Extensive hands-on experience in mutant diversity library construction, high throughput screening, and various selection methods such as emulsion based selection, genetic screening, or display. An expert in molecular biology both in theory and hands on. Experiences in nucleic acid binding proteins especially polymerases are plus A self-starter, positive, and driven with a "can do" attitude. Excellent communication skills and enjoys to work in a team environment. * Experiences in people management are highly desirable. Illumina is an Equal Opportunity Employer
