This course provides an introduction to the human genome, including both description of relevant concepts as well as practical experience using Web-based bioinformatics tools to analyze DNA and protein sequences. Attendees will learn the structure and features of the human genome and the main types of variations that occur. They will be introduced to the three main online gateways where they will analyze both a single gene and gene sequences as well as explain how software programs predict the clinical significance of DNA variants.

Given today's fiscal constraints, transportation officials are considering a broad array of alternative scenarios and innovative solutions to better manage the operations of existing transportation systems, consistent with the concept of “Planning for Operations” promoted by Federal Highway Association (FHWA). Recent advances have allowed the development of "mesoscopic" models that bridge the gap between planning and operations. This course will provide students with an understanding of transportation multi-resolution models and and their use to support planning activities and Federal programs.
