BACK DIALS A computer-generated reconstruction shows the back dials of the Antikythera mechanism. The upper dial is a 19-year, 235-month Metonic calendar for fitting lunar months into solar years; the right inner dial follows the four-year cycle of Panhellenic games, including the Olympic games and the Nemean games. The lower dial is an 18-year calendar for predicting solar and lunar eclipses.
