11TH PLACE:

Studying the brain, Dominik Paquet of the Ludwig Maximilians University's Adolf Butenandt Institute in Munich stained different parts of this Alzheimer's-model zebra fish. Its neurons are green, tau proteins appear red, and the pathological tau, blue. The fish appears here at 10 x magnification under a confocal. The group published a paper on the zebra fish as a model for studying Alzheimer's earlier this year in The Journal of Clinical Investigation.
