Add CommentAlexander Kemurjian, the little rover's designer, once told me Prop-M was working and had begun to deploy during those first 20 seconds after landing. But Mars 3 arrived during a tremendous Martian dust storm, and he believed the lander was blown over by the wind, and so lost contact with Earth. If the Soviets had had a little better luck, who knows where we would be on Mars today.
