Hovering particle trapped by laser beam

Near a semireflective surface, the particle experiences counterbalancing forces that effectively hold it in place. By shifting the aim of the laser beam, the hovering particle can be moved over the surface. Video courtesy APS/V. G. Shvedov et al.
