The Hon. Charles Mason, oi Iowa, a brother of Senator Mason, of Virginia, has been ap pointed and confirmed Commissioner of Pa tents. Mr. Mason is understood to possess high le gal qualifications, and it is confidently expect ed that his administration of the affairs of the Office will prove highly satisfactory to the whole country. It gives us much pleasure to bear testimony to the ability and courtesy of Mr. Hodges, the late incumbent. His appointment was most judicious and highly compli mentary to Mr. Fillmore's judgment. We predict for Mr. Mason, also, a popular career.
