To make the most detailed image yet of the giant stellar nursery called the Rosette Nebula, a team from the INT/WFC Photometric H α Survey (IPHAS) combined 200 separate images. The gap in the center of the 100-light-year-wide nebula is caused by stellar winds and radiation from the young stars growing inside it. The team intends to release their complete record of the plane of our galaxy by June 2007.
