The operating system on your computer, tablet or smartphone should be up-to-date for the best web experience. Your browsers should also be up-to-date and set to accept cookies. We support the latest versions of the following browsers:

Subscription access online and in our apps:
Digital access is included with all subscriptions to Scientific American, provided you did not buy an App-Only subscription from iTunes or Google Play. The amount of digital access you have at ScientificAmerican.com depends upon the type of subscription you have. Only Full Archive subscriptions include all the subscription issues of Scientific American in our Archive.
To access online content, you have to have an account at ScientificAmerican.com. Full instructions for importing your subscription into your online account are found here.
When you have completed registration, you can then use the same email and password for the Scientific American or Mind App that you use for ScientificAmerican.com. Our apps work on all up-to-date smartphones and tablets.
Digital-only subscribers who purchased subscriptions online should have instant access to their content, including the app issues. If you purchased your subscription over the phone, you can activate your subscription with your account number. If you don’t know your account number, please call or email us.
Print subscribers can find their account number on their mailing label using this handy guide.
Recipients of gift subscriptions purchased by phone or mail can activate digital access with their account number. If you don’t have your account number, call or email us.
Gift subscriptions purchased at ScientificAmerican.com need a special gift code for activation. If you can’t find or didn’t receive the gift email that contains this code, please email us and we will send the code to you.
For your convenience, subscriptions purchased at ScientificAmerican.com will renew automatically at the end of the subscription term. We notify you by email approximately 30 days prior to the renewal. If you wish to continue subscribing, you don’t need to take any further action. If you do not wish to renew, please email or call us. If your credit/debit card cannot be charged, we will bill you by mail.
If you need to change your credit card information, we strongly recommend you call us. It is not safe to send card information in an email.
