The Fight to Save Planetary Science, and Why the New Mars Rover Doesn't Mean Victory
Andy Rivkin is a planetary astronomer whose research focuses on compositional study of asteroids. He was first interested in the planets as a child as Viking and Voyager explored the solar system, and got his PhD in Planetary Sciences at about the time NEAR Shoemaker visited Mathilde and Cassini left Earth for Saturn. While he does have a job and belong to several professional societies (at least at this point), he is speaking on behalf of none of them.
