Crispin T. S. Little is a senior lecturer in paleontology at the University of Leeds in England. He has been working for the past 16 years on the macroevolutionary history of animal communities found at hydrothermal vents, hydrocarbon seeps and whale falls. On a 2008 oceanographic cruise he achieved a long-standing personal goal of diving in the Alvin submersible to active vents 2.5 kilometers deep on the Pacific seafloor.
