DAVID D. CLARK (ddc@lcs.mit.edu) is director of the Advanced Network Architecture Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Laboratory for Computer Science. At M.I.T., Clark has been an influential figure in the Internet's development since the mid-1970s, shortly after he received his Ph.D. there. During the 1980s, he was chief architect for the development of the Internet Protocol Suite and also chaired the Internet Activities Board. Recently he has been working on new network technologies and extensions to the Internet to support real-time traffic, explicit allocations of service, pricing and related economic issues.
