John Yin pursues research with support from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. At the University of Wisconsin–Madison, he is a professor of chemical and biological engineering and a founding faculty member of the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery. Yin and his co-workers explore diverse facets of zombie viruses, as well as the chemical origins of life.
