The Final Environmental Frontier: Space Development and Its Consequences
Justin St. P. Walsh is assistant professor of art history and archaeology at Chapman University. Although his primary research is on the relationships between Greeks and non-Greek native populations of the western Mediterranean in the seventh to fourth centuries BCE, he has also worked on the preservation of cultural heritage, especially objects and sites in space, such as Tranquility Base. He is now collaborating with Vera Fernandes (Humboldt University, Berlin) and Monica Trüninger (University of Lisbon) on a re-conceptualization of "planetary protection" to include environmental ethics and broad socio-cultural understandings of space. He thanks his collaborators for their contributions to the ideas presented in this essay. Any errors remain his alone.
