How Work-Family Justice Can Bring Balance to Scientist Moms
It’s time to change cultural views and expectations around science and motherhood
Rachel Buxton is a post-doctoral research fellow at Carleton University. She has a PhD and MSc in ecology, from the University of Otago and Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her research program focuses on conservation biology from the individual animal to the continental scale, from seabirds to sound environments. Her research has brought her to incredible places, from the Aleutian Islands to Antarctica. She now shares her time between a computer screen and her family, including her 16-month-old son. Her favorite stories of trying to maintain "work-family balance" include submitting a grant proposal while her water was breaking and doing her first on-campus interview with a 10-week old baby.
