Dr. Richard H. Adamson received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Drake University and earned both his M.S. and Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Iowa, where he received his doctorate at the age of 23. He also holds an M.A. in International Affairs from The George Washington University and has further graduate training in operational research, science and government and management. Dr. Adamson served two years in the U.S. Public Health Service at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and then became a civil servant at the National Cancer Institute, NIH. He rapidly became a senior investigator and rose to Section Chief, Laboratory Chief and then Director, Division of Cancer Etiology, and Scientific Director. He has published more than 240 scientific papers and given numerous scientific presentations to national and international organizations and testified before congress. He is recognized both in the U.S. and abroad as an expert in cancer causation. Dr. Adamson also served from 1979-80 as Senior Policy Analyst, Office of Science and Technology Policy, Executive Office of the President. In 1994, Dr. Adamson joined the American Beverage Association (ABA), formerly the National Soft Drink Association, as Vice President for Scientific and Technical Affairs. He retired from ABA in December 2004, but remains a consultant on scientific and regulatory matters. Upon his retirement, Dr. Adamson started TPN Associates, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in toxicology, pharmacology and nutrition issues, for which he is president and chief executive officer. Dr. Adamson belongs to several editorial boards and has received several honors and awards from both the Federal Government and several scientific societies and organizations.
