How to Protect Our Disappearing Bumble Bees
Homeowners, community members, school gardeners, farmers—everyone can help
Susan Carpenter is the native plant gardener at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. With background and experience in plant ecology, ecological restoration and science education, she works with students and community volunteers to maintain and monitor a 4-acre garden representing the plant communities of southern Wisconsin. She leads a citizen science conservation project that documents native bumble bees, including the endangered rusty-patched bumble bee, Bombus affinis, which lives at the Arboretum.
