Math Puzzle: Compute the sequence

The number sequence 7688, 2688, 768, 336 … follows a specific pattern. What could the next numbers be?

From the second number onward, each number in the sequence is the product of the digits of its predecessor. The next two numbers are therefore 3 × 3 × 6 = 54 and 5 × 4 = 40. All subsequent numbers in the sequence are zeros.
