2026 Solar Eclipse Mediterranean Cruise
Totality in the Mediterranean with Clara Moskowitz
Highlights
Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime Mediterranean cruise to witness the 2026 total solar eclipse. Begin and end in the glamorous city of Nice, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its glimmering beaches and tree-lined promenade. And enjoy ports of call in Barcelona and the sunny islands of Menorca and Mallorca, where optional shore excursions include walking tours, and a stargazing experience at a planetarium. When the sky darkens and the stars emerge on August 12, you’ll have one of the best vantage points in the world for experiencing the total solar eclipse – at sea, directly in the path of totality, with an unobstructed view of the moon as it passes between the Earth and the sun.
Your western Mediterranean cruise aboard the elegant MV La Belle des Océans provides an ideal balance: expert scientists who will offer fascinating lectures and insights into the astronomical phenomenon that occurs during an eclipse; the natural beauty and delicious cuisine of the Mediterranean.; and the opportunity to experience one of nature’s most spectacular shows from the deck of a small expedition ship.

Expert Guide: Clara Moskowitz
Clara Moskowitz is chief of reporters at Scientific American, where she covers astronomy, space, physics and mathematics. Clara got hooked on eclipses during 2017’s total eclipse over the U.S., which she watched from eastern Oregon; she fed the fever in 2024 when she experienced totality in Austin, Texas. Those experiences only made her more eager to catch another eclipse as soon as possible. Clara has been at Scientific American for more than a decade; previously she worked at Space.com. In addition to eclipses, Clara has reported live from rocket launches, space shuttle liftoffs and landings, suborbital spaceflight training, mountaintop observatories, and more. She has a bachelor’s degree in astronomy and physics from Wesleyan University and a graduate degree in science communication from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
