How likely would you be to say "yes" to being placed in a coma for a lengthy spaceflight to another planet?

In the new sci-fi film Project Hail Mary, Ryan Gosling's character goes on a long trip to the Tau Ceti star system. To survive, he's placed in a state akin to suspended animation. Would you be willing to go into a coma like this for a long-duration spaceflight if it meant you might get to visit another planet?

I recommend reading Mary Roach's excellent book "Packing for Mars". After reading that I along with many people no longer want to be an astronaut.

If you read the book what do you think?

P.S. you might want to read all of Mary Roach's books which are always thoroughly educational, and often very funny. She's a TREASURE!

I would love to! If I knew I was going to a livable world, and the technology was safe, I'd go.

Like another commenter, I also grew up with Star Trek, and the wondrous idea of exploring the galaxy has always been a part of me. If reincarnation is a thing I'll be back for that!

Now that I’ve lived my life I would definitely love to go star traveling but unfortunately for me, BECAUSE I’ve lived my life I wouldn’t be chosen. A 70 yr old astronaut doesn’t have a lot to offer in the way of longevity and my smarts have already left the building.

Yes! I am speaking from the lens of a 60 year old who has grown up watching Star Trek and seen many of the gadgets shown in the TV show come to life.

Waking up on a different planet especially with a mission that you have trained for would be the ultimate adventure.

Hell no!

Two of three astronauts died, so there’s that. Yes I would be right onboard if given the chance!

Probably not, if the odds of survival were anything like in the book (1 in 3). There's still plenty to see here thanks.

Of course I would‼️😎

What an adventure that would be…and my answer couldn’t POSSIBLY have anything to do with the fact that, at 78 years old, I don’t have a lot of “adventures” like that left.

Where do I sign❓
