Have you been under the winter freeze?
It was 10 degrees F and felt like -4 this morning in NYC where SciAm is headquartered. What's the weather like where you are? If you're experiencing the cold, how are you preparing?

A ton of snow in Charlotte, most schools/work canceled for multiple days. Definitely not normal for us to have this much snow down here.
House is as clean and organized as it was in early COVID. Cold is coming back to NJ after a couple all the way up to freezing days. When it gets cold again I will alphabetize the pantry.
I’m hoping this really cold weather will kill a lot of ticks, mosquitos, web worms, aphids etc. you name it we have had it. And possibly, hopefully not so hot and dry in the summer. Feels like northeastern oklahoma is turning into desert.
It's pretty normal here in the light purple region. Typically we have 1-2 weeks in January with negative temperatures. But this years cold snap was short and not as cold as usual. when I moved here in the 1980's I had to buy a tank heater for my car and plug it in to get it started in the morning. I placed my book bag in the passenger and they vinyl seat shattered in my Datsun due to the temps. The region experienced 30 days where the temps did not go over 0 degrees Fahrenheit. So, this January has been moderate and very little snow.
I live in the Sierra Nevada foothills between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. This winter has been so mild that a few of my native herbaceous perennial plants have never stopped blooming. It’s been like spring out there for almost the entire months of December and January. I’m not sure if we’re going to get enough chill hours for the fruit trees this year. My bet is on branch-breaking snow when the fruit trees are in bloom in the spring.
