What fun fact or other tidbit have you learned about beavers?

In the movie Hoppers, an animal lover slips into a robot beaver body and joins a beaver colony. In real life, some researchers use robots, costumes, drones and other creative methods for studying animals in the wild. What have they learned? In addition to being furry ecosystem engineers, beavers excrete oils from their rear-ends called castoreum. Turns out, if you ate anything with "natural vanilla flavoring" in the 1970s and 1980s, you were likely consuming beaver butt juice. What are some interesting things you've discovered about beavers? Any fun facts?

I decided to look up some fun facts about beavers and found a li’l gem: apparently the second toe from the inside of their hind feet is a preening toe. It has a special split toenail that works like a fine-toothed comb to help beavers clean their fur and apply their anal excretions for waterproofing.
