What is the most scientifically advanced gadget or other possession would you love to have?
From high-end binoculars with far-range optics to wristwatches that are engineering marvels to space hotels to perfumes engineered to impact emotion and memory, the world of luxury is filled with ... science. What is the most scientifically advanced gadget or other item you would love to have (if money weren't a limiting factor)?

A space hotel will really only be attractive to stay in when it is like the one in 2001: A Space Odyssey. In other words, a huge, rotating wheel that would create artificial gravity at the periphery. I read somewhere that 2/3 G is the minimum required to avoid the problems of loss of bone density that occurs in zero G. There could also be an area in the hub of the wheel for temporarily enjoying the weightlessness of zero G. Such things would probably be prohibitively expensive for some time to come.
A more modern battery in my EV. One that is comfortable running from 100% to 0%, and doesn't degrade.
A road that moves ans stationary vehicle!!
I would like a Boston Dynamics Atlas robot, for use as a domestic robot. I fully understand that it would need considerable programming and training to be a practical aid in the home. I also understand it could be dangerous. Still I would love the opportunity to try to domesticate it.
ChatGPT says Neuralink. I want to go with the same answer: "A device that alters the brain, however, we want it in a cellular level. Allowing for instant retrieval of information far exceeding the limits of a single human memory and experience." I want an open source version of it as well, which would prevent overlords from turning me into a zombie. Having talked with a thousand and one people I do agree with some of the tech giants that some of the people need to have a reduced access to intelligence. (The people in question cannot see beyond their hatred, and would and do try their best to destroy everything that slightly deviates from their simple yet harmful worldview. Having said that, I do not necessarily agree with the aforementioned tech giants on control of the masses for the benefit of a specific group of people only.)
Interocitor
a computer................................
WAIT.
An EV with a range of at least 500 miles that charges as quickly as filling up a gas tank.
the daily newsletter mentions the need for nuclear power for the moon and other space projects, and states they are under accellerated development.
I also saw a news item about how the praire farmers are hurting during the current fuel crisis as their truly enormous machinery gobbles up fuel.
Small nuclear reactors of , say, 500 to 800 kw could be used instead, when developed.
At this time there is a lot of development work going on with Thorium molten salt reactors, which can actually help reduce some of the previously stored nuclear 'waste' from earlier nuclear reactors. Those reactors can not be used to make weapon grade material and would be much safer amd more versatile than the earlier generations reactors.
very interesting article about the binoculars, but I did not see anything about a feature I experienced sommetime ago: an electronic image stabilisation, similar to what is used in some cameras. it was remakable how much easier it was to follow and propperly view the object of interest, without the shaking.
Some things that have not been invented yet! A ‘beam me up Scotty!’ Gadget so that I can get from one place to another without the hassle of travel. Aaaand arrive fully at destination too 😀
Another would be if my phone that can transmit pictures and videos could also transmit fragrances. Then you can complete the experience
I want a sub wavelength microscope, courtesy of a fabricated metalens, recent Nature articles suggest this may eventuate; and be affordable.
I would like to design and build a 3D printed house and push the limits of aesthetics and functionality of a home.
In your discussion of features of binoculars you failed to mention one that seems to me making the greatest difference: an active image stabilizer, which eliminates the jitter of a handheld device!!!!
24/7 recording of my conversations with ai enhanced voice requested playback and interpretation without impacting the battery life of my phone. Battery life must be 24 hours at least. Privacy issues must be addressed in some fashion.
We’ve got two Swarovski binos and a Swarovski spotting scope. There’s nothing on the market that compares IMHO. Our first set of binos is 25 years old and still better than anything except new Swarovskis.
As a microscopist, I have long wanted my own scanning electron microscope, along with inverted light scope (with trinocular head) for viewing plankton, and a good stereo dissecting scope. I am also eyeing binoculars mounted on a tripod, for longer distance birding--too heavy for ease in carrying in the field, however.
