COMPUTER MODEL of the Parasaurolophus crest reveals the network of air passages (foreground) hidden inside the actual fossil (background). Data for the model were obtained from a computerized tomography (CT) scan performed at St. Joseph Medical Center in Albuquerque, NM. A series of 350 cross sections were taken of the skull and crest at three-millimeter intervals. The digitized results showed a much more complicated internal structure than any previous descriptions.
