The Search Room of the Patent Office. An exhibition hall now utilized for the accommodation of patent attorneys, who examine the records of granted patents. All day this room is filled with attorneys and their assistants, who sometimes appear in such great numbers that they are forced to use the halls and other rooms for their work. In the foreground is shown the tar which has dripped from the model-vault lights, to protect the boxes from which old carpets and tarpaulins have been spread.
